The Women's Football Association begins play in eight cities.

The WFA is a re-organization of the Women's American Football League that played last year and folded after the season completed.

The Alabama Slammers were members of the original WAFL and played some of their home games in Birmingham.

Due to league mismanagement, six of the teams decided to leave the WAFL and start their own league.

Two new teams, one being the Birmingham Steel Magnolias, were also added.

The WFA will play by National Football League rules.

Although the Steel Magnolias lost the conference championship game, the city of Birmingham hosted the Women's Football Association Bowl, the league's championship game today. The game wasn't much of a contest as the Jacksonville Dixie Blues defeated the Indianapolis Vipers 68-20.

Epilogue
The Women's Football Association folded before the 2003-04 season could begin. Primarily this was due to a few teams moving over to the Women's Professional Football League and a couple of teams folding.
